Occupy Nova Scotia: Police Arrest & Evict Halifax Protesters (Raw Video #1)
11/11/2011 Nova Scotia protesters are planning their next move after several were arrested Friday at the Occupy Nova Scotia site as police enforced an eviction notice and dismantled tents. Police were processing 12 people arrested during the eviction and said they should be released from custody by midnight. Activists met at St. Andrews Church Hall to regroup, as some of the protesters were spending the night at the church. At Victoria Park, only remnants of the protesters' camp and a small police presence remain. Police teams descended on Victoria Park on Friday afternoon, a couple of hours after demonstrators were told to leave the city park because they were camping illegally. Fourteen people — 12 men and two women — were arrested as of 4 pm AT, all for obstruction of justice, Halifax Regional Police said. "The time has come for the encampment to end," Mayor Peter Kelly said in a statement. "Our parks are for all of the public, not an unregulated campground for some." Demonstrators moved to Victoria Park earlier this week after agreeing to leave Grand Parade for Remembrance Day events. They planned to return to the main park in downtown Halifax on Saturday. The notice said the demonstrators would not be allowed to camp in Grand Parade or any other HRM park. Kelly said they have the right to gather and protest. "We support that, but we don't support the use of tents," he told CBC News. Demonstrators said they felt betrayed by the municipality, particularly the mayor ...

HALIFAX POLICE TASER A DISABLED BLACK MAN TO DEATH
HALIFAX POLICE TASER A DISABLED BLACK MAN TO DEATH
A 61 year old man from Halifax County, North Carolina, was tasered by cops and died Tuesday after they were called to the scene by an onlooker who saw the man fall off his bike in a parking lot and feared he was drunk. When the police arrived, Roger Anthony was riding away on the bike. Anthony did not respond to the officers' requests for him to stop so Officer John Turner used a stun gun on him, causing Anthony to once again fall off his bike, reports wral news. Family members told the press that when Anthony arrived at the local hospital shortly afterwards, he was declared brain dead. Scotland Neck Police Chief Joe Williams told the media that the officer had seen Anthony "take something out his pocket and put it into his mouth," and had therefore taken the decision to taze the man. Anthony's sister, Gladys Freeman, told wral that her brother was disabled, hard of hearing and suffered from seizures. Anthony's brother-in-law, Milton Freeman told reporters "Why would you (use a stun gun on) a man on a bike? He didn't do any crime. He wasn't trying to escape. How (was) he going to escape on his bicycle?" The police have refused to comment further on the incident pending an investigation. Officer Turner, who had only been on active duty for a month, has been placed on leave - 24 November 2011.

20th Floor Pieces of Boardwalk blows off in High Winds Halifax, NS
High winds up to 100km/h around 10:30 AM this morning blew huge pieces of a boardwalk off Queens Square on Alderney Drive. . He heard that a pregnant lady got hurt (unconfirmed) and was rushed to hospital. A van was hit by another large piece of wood. Streets were blocked off and over a dozen Firefighters were on location moving material on the roof and tying it down. Then the wind changed direction and lifted the tied material straight up in the air over ten feet and slammed back down onto the roof where it was tied up. #30 - Most Viewed (Today) - Reporters - Canada #49 - Most Viewed (This Week) - Reporters - Canada

Cross Canada Train trip - Time Lapse movie - Vancouver BC to Halifax NS
In November of 2009, I took a train trip straight from Vancouver BC to Halifax NS, and brought along a time lapse camera to record the changes in landscape and the homes and lives of Canadians as I traveled from ocean to ocean. While I needed to cut a lot of the trip out (Canada is about 3X larger than this video can show) I hope you find some inspiration in watching the Canada we share with neighbors of all stripes. As I was editing this movie today, I received news of the tragic Via Rail derailment in Ontario. This movie is dedicated to the 3 Via Rail train workers that lost their lives.

Game 1 - Halifax Mooseheads vs Rimouski Oceanic
Game 1 - Halifax Mooseheads vs Rimouski Oceanic
Tonight was all about taking advantage of opportunities. Rimouski made the most of theirs, while the Herd failed to capitalize on their scoring chances. The Oceanic recorded a 4-1 victory over a Moose squad that couldn't seem to get anything going all night despite an energetic sellout crowd of 10595 who had little to cheer about all night. Cameron Critchlow scored the lone goal for the Moose who trailed throughout the game despite outshooting the Oceanic 30-14. The good news is there is no time to dwell on this loss for the Moose as they are back on home ice Saturday night for Game 2. Another soldout crowd is expected at the Metro Centre.
